Kotzen

Kotzen is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Alps that rises to 1771 meters with steep slopes and exposed rock faces. The ascent passes through diverse vegetation zones as hikers climb from forested areas into open alpine terrain.

The mountain served as a natural boundary between various Bavarian territories during medieval times and shaped local administrative divisions. This geographic importance made the summit a key reference point for defining regional borders and territory distinctions.

Local climbing groups maintain several traditional routes to the summit, marking them with regional symbols that reflect Bavarian mountain heritage.

Marked hiking trails lead from nearby parking areas to the summit, taking about three hours during summer months and offering different difficulty levels. Starting early in the day gives you enough time to complete the hike before darkness falls.

On clear days, the summit offers views of roughly 28 neighboring peaks across the German-Austrian border, including mountains on the Austrian side. This wide panorama makes the location a natural survey point for understanding the entire Alpine region.
