Bode Valley Gondola Lift

The Bode Valley Gondola connects Thale to the Hexentanzplatz plateau using modern cable cars with glass-floored cabins for viewing. The ride crosses high above the Bode River gorge and overlooks the surrounding Harz mountains.

This cable car began operating in the mid-twentieth century as a key transport link to the mountain plateau. Over decades it has undergone regular technical upgrades to improve both safety and passenger experience.

The name Hexentanzplatz comes from local legends about witches gathering on the mountain. Today visitors find festivals and events that connect them with regional mountain traditions and folklore.

The best time to visit is during clear weather when views down the gorge are most visible. The station area is accessible for wheelchairs and parking is available near the valley base station.

This cable car offers special cabins with completely transparent floors so riders see directly below into the gorge. Many visitors find this floor-viewing experience both thrilling and slightly unsettling during the ride.
