31st Airborne Brigade, former formation in the German Army
The 31st Airborne Brigade was a German Army airborne infantry unit based in Lower Saxony that comprised paratroopers trained for rapid deployment. It numbered around 3600 soldiers and was primarily stationed in Oldenburg and Seedorf.
The brigade was established on March 31, 1993, and operated as the Luftlandebrigade 31 Oldenburg. It was reorganized in 2014 and integrated into the 1st Airborne Brigade in 2015, ending its history as an independent unit.
The unit was based in Oldenburg and shaped how the local community understood military readiness. Public parades and open days helped residents connect with the soldiers and their specialized role in national defense.
The barracks and training grounds are not open to the public as they remain active military facilities. Visiting the city of Oldenburg provides an understanding of where the unit was based and the context of its history.
Soldiers trained intensively in survival skills beyond parachuting, including how to handle equipment failures mid-jump and support each other in critical situations. This specialized preparation made the unit one of the most demanding formations in the German Army.
