Burg Randeck, Medieval castle ruins in Mannweiler-Cölln, Germany.
Burg Randeck is a castle situated on steep hillside terrain in the Alsenz valley, with well-preserved stone walls and tower remnants from the Middle Ages. The structure spans multiple levels down the slope and reveals medieval defensive techniques through its wall runs and bastion arrangements.
The castle was first mentioned in 1202 under Henry of Randeck and remained the seat of various noble families for over 5 centuries. In 1690, French troops destroyed the fortification during a succession conflict.
The castle served as the seat of noble families who shaped the region for centuries. Today, visitors can explore the remaining structures and connect with the medieval ruling history of the Alsenz valley.
Access to the ruins is via marked hiking paths that become more demanding on steeper slopes. The terrain is not suitable for visitors with limited mobility, though the paths themselves are relatively easy to follow.
After its destruction in 1690, the castle was partially rebuilt and briefly served as a dwelling for local families. This short-lived reuse ended quickly, and the site eventually fell into the ruins visible today.
