Burg Ehrenstein, Castle ruins in Ehrenstein, Germany
The castle remains spread across 36 meters in length and feature a rectangular tower with walls reaching 2.5 meters in thickness at its western end.
Construction of the castle began in the 12th century, with significant expansions during the 14th century under Count Günther VIII, who served as imperial steward.
The castle holds a preserved medieval water closet outlet on the southern side of the keep, providing insights into medieval sanitation systems.
The four-story palace structure divides into two residential sections and includes a 25-meter-high keep accessible through the upper floor living quarters.
The castle experienced only one military engagement during its existence, when forces captured it in 1448 during the Schwarzburg War.
