Burg Frauenberg, Medieval castle ruins in Feuerbach, Stuttgart, Germany
Burg Frauenberg is a medieval castle ruin in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, perched on a mountain spur above the district. The preserved tower base features walls about 4 meters thick and forms the main feature of the visible remains today.
The castle was founded in 1220 by the Herren von Frauenberg family and first appeared in records in 1251 through mention of Wolframus de Vrowenberc. After its establishment, it shaped the medieval structure of the region as a fortified settlement.
The ruins reflect medieval defensive construction methods used in the region's territorial struggles. Visitors can understand how the location once mattered for controlling the surrounding area.
The site is freely accessible and sits on a mountain spur with good views of the surrounding area. It requires some effort to reach as it is not directly beside the road, but the vantage point rewards the short climb.
Around 1390, the tower served as a prison where two knights held merchants captive and demanded ransom payments. It took intervention by Count Eberhard II to stop this illegal activity.
