Burg Seffent, Medieval castle in Seffent district, Aachen, Germany
Burg Seffent is a four-wing castle structure built from sandstone with a conical-roofed round tower at its north corner and a defensive tower at the east corner. The buildings surround a central courtyard, creating an enclosed complex that still stands much as it was built centuries ago.
First recorded in 896 as Seffenter Hof, the property changed hands over centuries as it grew from a rural estate into a fortified residence. The transition from simple farmstead to defensive structure shaped its physical form and purpose through different periods.
The castle takes its name from the settlement that once surrounded it and today houses residents who live within its transformed spaces. It demonstrates how a former seat of power became an ordinary neighborhood landmark where people go about their daily lives.
The castle was extensively renovated and now contains private residences, so viewing is possible from the outside and courtyard areas. A restaurant operates within the complex and allows visitors to step inside and experience the space more closely.
