Burg Heimerzheim is a two-part moated castle at the southern edge of Heimerzheim in the Rhein-Sieg district, made up of a outer bailey and a main house surrounded by broad ponds. It is among the best-preserved castles of the Swist valley.

Burg Heimerzheim was founded by the Lords of Heimerzheim by the mid-13th century and stayed in their hands until 1324, when knight Wennemar von Heimerzheim sold it to the Teutonic Order, making it the seat of a commandery. Noble owners changed several times until the 18th century, when it passed to Count Caspar Anton von Belderbusch, minister of the Electorate of Cologne. Marriage brought it to the von Boeselager family, who still hold it.

The castle stands as a record of how local nobility demonstrated their power through fortified stone structures in the medieval period. Today it sits among residential buildings, creating a direct link between past and present daily life.

The castle is easily accessible from Swisttal town center by local transport and sits within a residential area with good infrastructure. It is advisable to check access beforehand, as the structure is not always open to visitors.

The castle has merged surprisingly well with the modern residential area rather than standing apart as an isolated monument. This juxtaposition of ancient stone walls and contemporary houses creates a rare urban character that few medieval structures achieve.
