Burg Lichteneck

Burg Lichteneck is a medieval castle ruin on a hill near Rimbach with remnants of walls, towers, and fortifications from different periods. The stones and foundations clearly show the original layout and give a sense of the castle's scale and structure.

The castle was built around 1200 and served for centuries as a defensive stronghold during the many conflicts that shaped the Upper Franconia region. The site was later abandoned and gradually fell into the ruins visible today.

The castle was once a center of local power and shaped how people organized the surrounding landscape. Today, visitors can see from the remains how important this place was for the region.

The site is accessible via marked walking paths and parking is available at the base of the hill in Rimbach. Trail conditions vary by season, so sturdy footwear is recommended.

Different construction phases are visible in the walls, showing how building techniques and defensive strategies changed over the centuries. These layers in the stones tell the story of adapting to new military needs.
