Burgruine Pfannenstiel, Donautal

Burgruine Pfannenstiel is a medieval castle ruin situated on a hilltop in the Danube valley. The remains feature a rectangular residential tower, thick defensive walls, and evidence of a former moat system.

The castle was built in the second half of the 13th century by the Counts of Hohenberg. After 1400 the fortification declined, and ownership eventually passed to the Lords of Urbach.

A local legend connects the ruins to a tragic story involving a noble family member during a fire. This tale has remained part of the region's folklore and shapes how visitors understand the place today.

The ruins are reached via walking paths that start from the eastern plateau known as Hart, located between the Danube and Bara valleys. These trails provide a straightforward approach for exploring the site on foot.

The southeastern wall stands as the most substantial remaining structure of the entire complex. This prominent feature rises noticeably from the surrounding foundations and draws the eye when approaching from below.
