Schloss Bronnen, Medieval castle in Fridingen an der Donau, Germany.
Schloss Bronnen is a medieval castle complex situated on a steep rocky outcrop above the Danube River in Fridingen an der Donau. The property comprises a square residential tower and a two-story hunting lodge that together form its distinctive built structure.
The castle was built between 1100 and 1150 and subsequently passed through the hands of various noble families. The Counts of Zollern and later the Freiherren von Enzberg shaped its history across the centuries.
The chapel was built in 1755 and displays religious architecture of that era with its saddle roof and characteristic bell turret. The structure embodies the craftsmanship traditions of the region and continues to shape the castle's appearance today.
The castle remains private property of the Herren von Enzberg family and can only be visited with advance permission. Interested visitors should contact ahead to arrange access and learn which parts of the grounds are open to explore.
The castle suffered a chimney fire in 1946 that caused substantial damage to the residential tower. The extensive restoration work completed between 1947 and 1949 saved the building from deterioration and shaped its current state.
