Burgruine Rodenberg, Medieval castle ruin in Rotenburg an der Fulda, Germany

The stone remains of Rodenberg Castle stand on a 418-meter-high hill covered with beech forest, stretching across 110 meters by 40 meters.

Built after 1122 by the Ludowinger dynasty, the castle served as a strategic fortification until its destruction during the Star War conflict in 1372.

The castle's water source contamination by medieval raiders led to Rotenburg citizens receiving the enduring nickname 'Bornschisser'.

Visitors can reach the ruins via a marked hiking trail from the cardiovascular center parking lot, with free access throughout the year.

The castle's dimensions matched those of Wartburg Castle, with remaining features including 6-meter-high ramparts and a polygonal central keep foundation.
