Burgseilbahn Bad Lauterberg, Chairlift in Bad Lauterberg im Harz, Germany
Burgseilbahn is a chairlift system that connects the town with Hausberg mountain, rising 111 meters in elevation. The cable spans around 440 meters across the landscape of the Harz region.
Operations began on August 4, 1954, establishing this cable system as part of the town's development. A comprehensive technical upgrade in 2001 ensured safe and reliable service for visitors.
The mountain station grants access to the remains of Lutterberg Castle, inviting visitors to explore echoes of medieval times. The attached mountain restaurant serves as a gathering place where locals and guests enjoy regional food.
The lift operates from April to October daily except Mondays, between 10 AM and 6 PM, with adjusted hours from November through March. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the path from the mountain station to the castle ruins crosses uneven ground.
With a slope of 63 percent, this double chairlift ranks among the steepest in Germany, creating an unusual ride experience. The slow speed of just 0.5 meters per second lets passengers enjoy extended views of the Harz landscape during the ascent.
