Burg Hütting

Burg Hütting is a medieval castle ruin in Rennertshofen that once served as the home of a noble family. The eastern wall of the former residential building still rises about 23 feet (7 meters) above the ground, with five window openings visible in its weathered stone surface.

The castle was founded around 1060 by the Counts of Lechsgemünd and then handed to administrators who became known as the Lords of Hütting. This family controlled the fortress as the center of their regional power for many generations.

The ruins show how medieval families built their homes to defend their lands and show their status. People passing through today can see the remains of a structure that once held power over the surrounding area.

The ruins are reachable by following marked hiking trails around Rennertshofen and work well as a starting point for walks in the area. Parking is available in the nearby village of Hütting, making it convenient to reach the site on foot.

The ground beneath the castle is recognized and protected as geotope 185R010 by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. This geological site makes the location interesting for anyone curious about the natural history of the region and how the landscape formed over time.
