Burg Kaltental, Medieval castle site in Kaltental, Stuttgart, Germany.
Burg Kaltental was a medieval fortified site on a hilltop in Stuttgart's Kaltental district. The structure measured roughly 25 by 40 meters (82 by 131 feet) and featured defensive trenches on its northern and eastern sides.
The castle first appeared in written records in 1281 as a stronghold of the Lords of Kaltental. It changed hands several times before being demolished in 1837.
The Church of St. Antonius now stands where the castle once monitored the valley below. The site has transformed from a military stronghold into a place of worship.
The former castle grounds are located in Stuttgart's Kaltental district near Burgstrasse. The site is easily accessible on foot from this central location.
A private owner named Friedrich Gottlieb von Lowenstern purchased the already damaged site in 1696 for a substantial sum. This investment in a partially destroyed structure reflects the enduring interest in the location despite its advancing decay.
