Schloss Voigtsberg

Schloss Voigtsberg is a stone castle in Oelsnitz comprising several structures including a keep, defensive walls, round towers, and Saint George's Chapel spread across different levels. The complex features interior rooms with historical fittings and multiple exhibition areas that document the building's evolution over time.

The castle originated around 1200 through the Vögte von Straßberg and received its first written mention in 1249 when lord Eberhardus de Voitesberk owned it. Over the centuries, it underwent several reconstructions and expansions that shaped its present form.

The Princes' Hall displays a notable Renaissance painting by Titian showing Archduchess Katharina of Austria alongside other historical artworks from different periods. This collection reflects how the family displayed their power and taste within these walls.

Visitors can explore the various rooms and exhibitions at their own pace through a walking route that navigates different levels of the building. It is wise to allow several hours to fully experience the collections and views from the towers.

The basement houses a mineral collection displaying rock samples from the region and documenting the area's longer mining legacy. This collection connects the castle to the natural and economic history surrounding it.
