Talsperre Pirk

Talsperre Pirk is a reservoir covering 152 hectares with around 10 kilometers of shoreline and is the second largest in Saxony's Vogtland region. The water body serves both electricity generation and water level regulation of the White Elster River.

Construction of the Pirk Dam began in 1935, with its official inauguration on July 6, 1939. The project represented a major advancement in regional infrastructure at that moment in history.

The reservoir stands as a protected cultural heritage monument, and its power station building shows the architectural style of 1930s German engineering. The design reflects how engineers of that era combined practical needs with distinctive structural forms.

The best time to visit is during warmer months when the swimming areas and designated dog beach are accessible. Keep in mind that motorboats are not permitted on the water, which keeps the environment quiet and peaceful.
