Colonnaden is a street in Hamburg's Neustadt district extending from Jungfernstieg boulevard to Stephansplatz. Renaissance Revival buildings line the northeastern side with distinctive arcades that shelter shops and create covered walkways.
The street originated as private land owned by the Wex brothers in the 1870s before becoming a public shopping area during Hamburg's expansion. A major transformation occurred when the U-Bahn subway was constructed beneath it in 1930.
