The Colosseum consists of a 16-meter-high supporting wall built with 2.8 million bricks, forming the southern boundary of Westpark in Bochum.
The structure, constructed in 1911, served as part of Martin-Stahlwerk steelworks until 1983, when industrial operations ceased and most buildings were demolished.
Seven steel sculptures by local artist Friedrich Gräsel, crafted from industrial pipes and painted in different colors, decorate the rounded arch facade.
The square in front of the Colosseum reopened in March 2010 after renovations, making it accessible for visitors to view the industrial heritage.
Underground crawl spaces beneath the structure functioned as air raid shelters during World War II, forming part of an extensive protection system.
