Bürgerablage, Public beach and bathing site at Havel River in Spandau, Germany
Bürgerablage is a public bathing site on the Havel River in the Berlin district of Spandau, with a sandy beach and marked swimming areas. On site there are changing rooms, restrooms, and a kiosk selling snacks and drinks.
The site grew into a leisure spot in the early decades of the 20th century, when Berlin residents sought simple bathing options away from the city center. It has remained in continuous use for recreation since then.
The name "Bürgerablage" refers to an old landing place once used by townspeople, long before it became a bathing spot. Today it is mostly a local gathering point where families from Spandau come to sit by the water and spend the day together.
Lifeguards are present during summer, so visiting on warm days in that season is the safest option. The beach is easy to reach, and those who want to stay longer can use the camping facilities right by the riverbank.
Although it sits in the middle of a large city, the site offers overnight stays right on the riverbank. This makes it one of the few spots in Berlin where camping and a city beach experience go hand in hand.
