Theaterhaus Mitte, Theater production venue in Mitte, Germany
Theaterhaus Mitte is a former school building between Wallstrasse and Neue Jakobstrasse that now provides various rehearsal rooms and performance spaces for theater, dance, and other stage arts. The facility includes specialized spaces with different equipment and sizes suited to various artistic needs.
The venue began in 1992 as a rehearsal space on Rosenthaler Strasse before occupying several temporary locations, including a former power station. The move to its current site took place in 2009, and a second building in Schöneweide was added in 2021.
The venue functions as a meeting point for independent performing artists from Berlin and beyond who collaborate and share their work. The spaces fill daily with dancers, actors, and performers using the building as a place for exchange and joint projects.
Artists can rent affordable rehearsal rooms that are specifically equipped for acrobatics, dance, and theater productions by going through an application process. The spaces are flexibly bookable for various needs, from short training sessions to longer-term productions.
The organization runs not just one main location but also operates a second center in a former academy building, giving both sites different character and specializations. This decentralized structure allows the institution to better support different artistic disciplines and larger productions.
