Distelrather Kapelle

Distelrather Kapelle is a Gothic Revival filial church in Düren featuring a bell tower dating before the 11th century. The nave was rebuilt in 1873 following Gothic Revival architectural principles, creating the structure seen today.

The bell tower originally served as a fortification structure and remains the oldest preserved church component in Düren. Reconstruction work in the 19th century fundamentally transformed the building into its present form.

The interior holds wooden carvings of Saints Simon and Judas Thaddaeus alongside a notable painting of Madonna with Child. These artworks shaped how people experienced faith in this small chapel over the centuries.

The chapel sits in a quiet area of Düren and is easy to reach on foot. A support association has managed its upkeep since 2013, ensuring the structure remains well-maintained for visitors.

The chapel houses a 15th-century bell named Maria that still rings from its medieval tower. This ancient bell measures roughly 67 centimeters across and represents centuries of continuous use at this location.
