St. Laurentius, Gothic Revival parish church in Merzenich, Germany.
St. Laurentius is a three-aisled hall church in Merzenich featuring a four-story bell tower, a transept, and a seven-sided choir built entirely in brick. The interior showcases ribbed vaults throughout and was completed in 1901.
Built between 1898 and 1901 under architect Theodor Roß, the church replaced a smaller 13th-century structure that had become too small for the expanding community. This construction marked a major expansion of religious infrastructure in the town.
The church houses a 16th-century Antwerp altarpiece that now stands as a side altar next to the 1899 neo-Gothic high altar, joining different periods of artistic tradition in a single sacred space.
The church is located at Lindenstraße 11 in central Merzenich and operates under the Diocese of Aachen. Regular services are held throughout the week, and visitors are welcome to view the interior during these times.
A pipe organ built in 1997 by Orgelbau Schumacher from Eupen contains 29 stops spread across two manuals and a pedalboard with mechanical action. This instrument represents fine craftsmanship in organ building that visitors can hear during services.
