German Literature Archive Marbach, Literary archive and museum in Marbach am Neckar, Germany
The German Literature Archive holds 800,000 volumes and over 1,000 journals dedicated to German literary works from 1750 to the present day.
Established on July 12, 1955, the archive emerged as Germany's largest independent repository of literary documents, manuscripts, and personal papers of German writers.
The institution maintains collections of prominent German authors through three distinct sections: the Literature Museum of Modern Art, the Schiller National Museum, and the research archive.
Researchers and visitors can access the manuscript reading room and library from Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM without entrance fees.
The archive contains the 19th-century Cotta publishing house collection, representing the most substantial publishing documentation of German literature from that period.
