Divi Blasii, Mühlhausen, Gothic church in Mühlhausen, Germany
Divi Blasii is a Gothic church featuring two octagonal stone towers that rise about 42 meters high. The building contains a three-nave hall structure with a transept located at Untermarkt square.
The Teutonic Order began construction around 1276, though earlier buildings on the site dated back to the early 12th century. Over the following centuries, the church was repeatedly modified and enlarged.
The interior spaces with three naves and cross-shaped layout show the Gothic design of the era. Visitors today experience how the tall arches and windows fill the interior with light from all sides.
The church is easily accessible during daytime hours and provides information on-site. Regular events such as concerts and exhibitions take place throughout the year.
A special feature is the large rose window in the north transept, which ranks among the largest of its kind worldwide. Only the rose window of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris exceeds it in size.
