Theater Ulm presents opera, theater, and ballet across the year, each with its own dedicated ensemble. Walking through the foyer, visitors get a sense of how much artistic life the city pours into this one building.
The theater sits in the center of Ulm, within easy walking distance of the main train station. Checking the program ahead of time is a good idea, as popular shows tend to sell out early in the season.
Herbert von Karajan, who would later become one of the most recognized conductors of the 20th century, led performances here between 1929 and 1934. It was his first permanent post, and the experience shaped the early part of his career.
