Großer Eisenberg is a 907.4-meter summit in the Thuringian Forest within the city limits of Suhl, near the Rennsteig ridge trail. It is the fifth-highest independent peak of the Thuringian Forest, rising between the Finsterberg, the Adlersberg massif and the Schneekopf. To the southwest, its subsidiary peak Salzberg separates it from the Adlersberg massif.

The mountain takes its name from iron ore deposits mined in the past and processed in nearby Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig. Ore from the Großer Eisenberg also supplied the Neuwerk smelting works near Schmiedefeld. At 907.4 metres it is the fifth-highest independent summit of the Thuringian Forest, though it appears unremarkable between the Finsterberg, the Adlersberg massif and the Schneekopf.

The mountain's name comes from the iron ore mined here and processed in nearby Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig; ore from the Großer Eisenberg also supplied the Neuwerk ironworks near Schmiedefeld. The Rennsteig ridge trail passes close by, and the summit is the fifth-highest independent peak of the Thuringian Forest.

Multiple marked trails lead to the summit from various starting points, with dedicated parking areas available at the main trailheads. Visitors should come prepared for changing weather conditions and wear sturdy footwear, as trail conditions vary by season.
