Wildalpjoch

Wildalpjoch is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Alps that rises to 1720 meters and commands views across surrounding peaks and valleys. The terrain features open alpine meadows and rocky slopes accessible by established hiking trails.

The paths to this summit originated in the 19th century when local farmers created routes to move livestock between valley pastures. These herding trails remain the foundation of today's hiking routes.

German mountaineers regularly gather at Wildalpjoch's summit cross, following the regional tradition of documenting their ascents in a metal container logbook.

This hike is best done in dry weather since slopes become slippery after rain. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential for the ascent, and it is crucial to abandon the climb if thunderstorms approach.

On clear days, two of the highest peaks of the Eastern Alps can be spotted from this summit, located along Austria's border. This distant view lets hikers grasp the geographical scale of the Alps without traveling farther east.
