Eckkopf Tower, Steel observation tower in Deidesheim, Germany.
Eckkopf Tower is a steel observation structure located on a hilltop in the Palatinate Forest region. The tower rises 25 meters and provides views from its observation deck across forested hills and the Rhine Valley plains in every direction.
The first tower was built in 1891 but collapsed during a storm in 1920, and a second one burned down in 1973. The current steel structure was constructed afterwards and has since remained in place.
The tower takes its name from the hill where it stands and serves as a gathering point for hikers from the surrounding area. On weekends, visitors can enjoy a small inn near the structure, run by local volunteers from Deidesheim.
The climb to the observation platform is straightforward and requires no special equipment. Visit on clear days for the best views across the surrounding landscape.
The site was visited in 1982 by German Federal President Karl Carstens, who stopped here during his hiking tour across the country. Carstens used such walks to connect with the nation's landscapes.
