Obere Mühle, Historic watermill in Deidesheim, Germany.
Obere Mühle is a watermill located in the Mußbach valley at the eastern edge of the Pfälzerwald mountain range in Rhineland-Palatinate. The building used the stream's water to power its machinery and still displays the typical construction of a water-powered mill.
The mill was founded in 1711 as a grinding mill for grain processing. It underwent transformations over time and served various crafts in the valley.
The mill's name refers to its location in the upper part of the valley. Visitors can still see traces of the traditional milling structures that reveal how closely craftsmanship and water management were connected in this region.
You can explore the former mill site while hiking along the marked Mußbach trail, which connects several historical mill locations in the region. The path is relatively easy to follow and offers good signage throughout the valley.
Peter Koch, born at this mill in 1874, later became an accomplished painter, mayor, and received honorary citizenship of neighboring Gimmeldingen.
