Weinbiet, Mountain summit in Palatinate Forest, Germany
Weinbiet is a summit in the Palatinate Forest in Germany, rising to about 554 meters and covered with sandstone rock formations and mixed woodland. Open areas and dense forest patches alternate across its slopes, shaping the overall look of the terrain.
Near the summit stand the ruins of Wolfsburg Castle, built in the 13th century to protect the surrounding region. The castle fell into ruin over the centuries and its remains can still be seen today.
The trails on the Weinbiet are part of the European long-distance route E8, which passes through the Palatinate Forest here. Walkers from many countries cross this summit as part of their journey through Europe.
A good starting point for the hike is Neustadt an der Weinstraße, where parking is available near the Schöntal sports field. The trail is well marked and manageable for walkers with a reasonable level of fitness.
On a clear day, the view from the top reaches the Rhine plain, the Odenwald, the Black Forest, and the Vosges mountains all at once. This means you can take in landscapes from four different regions without moving a step.
