Botanischer Schulgarten Burg, Regional Environmental Education Center in Nord, Hannover, Germany.
Botanischer Schulgarten Burg is an environmental education center in Hannover with roughly 7.5 hectares of space that includes ponds, deciduous forests, meadows, and specialized teaching areas for nature study. The grounds feature a broad range of garden types, including areas for genetics, evolution, medicinal plants, vegetables, and plant collections from different geographic regions.
The garden was founded in 1927 as a school facility and served for many years as a practical learning center for students. In 1974 it became the headquarters of Schulbiologiezentrum Hannover and developed into an established educational institution.
The name reflects its origins as a school garden for a historic estate, and visitors today use the garden areas to experience plants and ecological connections firsthand. The different sections for herbs, vegetables, and geographic plant collections invite you to explore nature's variety from different angles.
The site is accessible on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with additional Sunday hours from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for paths through the different garden areas, especially after rain.
The grounds house a 200 square meter tropical greenhouse called 'Rainforest under Glass' that displays exotic plant species in warm, humid conditions. There is also a bee house where visitors can observe honey production and learn more about the role of pollinators in nature.
