E-Werk

The E-Werk concert hall occupies a former electrical power station building with red brick walls and industrial architecture elements from the early 1900s.

Built between 1904 and 1905 for 1.3 million marks, this power station supplied electricity to Mülheim until 1930 before becoming a wire rope production facility.

Since 1991, the venue hosts the annual Stunksitzung, an alternative carnival celebration that draws 55,000 visitors across 50 evenings of performances and music.

The facility features a main hall accommodating 2,000 people, with 1,630 square meters of usable space for concerts, corporate events, and private celebrations.

Musicians from the Cologne band BAP transformed this abandoned power station into a cultural venue in 1991, investing 5 million Deutsche Mark in renovations.
