The educational complex features a distinctive green-roofed tower and multiple extensions to accommodate its growing student population of over 1,000 learners.
The school originated in 1851 as a private Protestant institution and received special rights from King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia in 1854.
The school houses one of Germany's oldest brass bands, the Gymnasial-Posaunenchor, established in 1871 by Johannes Kuhlo.
The facility provides laptop access to all seventh-grade students and operates an International Baccalaureate program as an IB World School.
Every Christmas Eve at midnight, the brass band performs traditional carols from the building's tower and grand balcony.
