Energie-Museum Berlin

Energie-Museum Berlin occupies a former battery storage building and displays more than 5,000 items covering power generation and electrical engineering. The collections trace how energy production methods evolved from the early industrial period to modern times.

The building originally served as a power station producing electricity for Berlin between 1911 and 1994. After closure, it was transformed into a museum in 2001 to preserve this chapter of the city's industrial past.

Former employees of the power company run this place and share how energy systems shaped Berlin's daily life over the decades. Visitors learn about the technological choices that allowed the city to grow and function.

Plan your visit by contacting the museum by email at least three weeks in advance to arrange a guided tour slot. Tours are led in small groups through the exhibition spaces.

The museum preserves a working gas turbine with 750 kilowatts of power that can still be demonstrated to visitors. Historic tube mail systems from the industrial era are also on display, showing how messages were once sent automatically through pipes.
