Römermuseum Mengen-Ennetach, Archaeological museum in Mengen, Germany
The Römermuseum Mengen-Ennetach was an archaeological museum that displayed finds from Roman settlements in the region. It was housed in a renovated 1922 barn that had been expanded with modern glass structures.
The museum documented the remains of a Roman fort on Ennetacher Berg from the first century. It also displayed items from the Bronze Age, showing that the area had been inhabited for thousands of years.
The museum conveyed how Romans lived, worked, and spent their time through objects from everyday life. The exhibits gave visitors a sense of how people then traded, dressed, and built their homes.
The museum was located at Kastellstraße 52 in Mengen and operated from July 2001 until December 2015. Visitors should note that the facility is no longer in operation.
The museum operated a café where ancient dishes were prepared using recipes from the Roman cookbook De re coquinaria. This gave visitors the rare opportunity to taste authentic Roman food.
