Engelenschanze

Engelenschanze is a public park in Münster with large open green spaces, paved pathways, and various areas for rest and play. The park connects multiple neighborhoods together and serves as an important green link across the city.

The site began as a 17th-century fortification that was part of Münster's defenses. It was later converted into green space as the city removed its fortifications and underwent modernization.

The name comes from an old fortification, and today it serves as a neighborhood gathering spot where people walk and socialize. You will see residents of all ages using the space regularly for their daily routines.

The park is easily reached from the main train station and has multiple entry points from different sides. There is adequate parking nearby, making visits by car comfortable.

The park preserves sections of the original earthen ramparts from the fortification, visible if you look closely at how the ground slopes and rises. These remains are subtle reminders of the site's military past.
