Stummhaus

Stummhaus is an eleven-story office building in central Düsseldorf distinguished by triangular brick pillars and alternating masonry tones on its exterior walls. The structure occupies a substantial footprint in the city center and includes parking facilities within.

Built between 1922 and 1924 as the headquarters for the Stumm Company, the structure exemplifies expressionist architecture of that era. Damage sustained during World War II was followed by comprehensive restoration work in the years after the war.

The facade displays expressive brickwork with alternating tones and bold vertical elements that shaped how office buildings were designed during the 1920s. These architectural choices continue to define the character of central Düsseldorf today.

The building sits on Breite Straße in a central location and is easily reached on foot or by public transport. Keep in mind this is an active office building that can be viewed from the street.

Architect Paul Bonatz coined the term 'Bürohausgotik' to describe this style, which blends gothic influences into modern office design. The building ranks among Germany's earliest high-rise structures.
