Düsseldorf Walzstahlhaus

The Walzstahlhaus is an office building in central Düsseldorf featuring a monumental pillar construction at its main entrance that spans two stories. The structure covers roughly 10,000 square meters and houses multiple offices, including the AOK insurance company.

The building was constructed in 1940 by architects Heinrich Rosskotten and Karl Wach as a steel skeleton structure serving as headquarters for Steelwork Union AG. Its design reflected industrial-era architectural approaches that characterized commercial buildings of that decade.

The facade displays five distinctive console heads and statues created by Düsseldorf sculptor Erich Kuhn that represent industrial craftsmanship. These artistic elements shape the building's appearance and tell of the connection between architecture and artistic creation from that era.

The building is located at Kasernenstraße 36 with good access to public transportation, making arrival and movement through the area convenient. It is clearly visible from the street and easy to spot once you have the address.

The building served as the venue for establishing North Rhine-Westphalia state in 1946 during the British occupation following World War II. This historical role made it a place of considerable regional importance during the postwar period.
