Filstalbrücke, Railway bridge in Mühlhausen im Täle, Germany
The Filstalbrücke is a railway bridge that crosses the Fils valley near Mühlhausen im Täle. The structure consists of two parallel decks that together span the terrain at considerable height.
The project was developed after lengthy planning phases in the 2000s and construction began in 2014. The bridge connects two railway tunnels and forms part of a modern rail route between Stuttgart and Ulm.
From 2017 to 2021, the construction site offered 543 guided tours, demonstrating the public interest in this engineering achievement connecting Stuttgart to Ulm.
The best views of the bridge come from the paths and vantage points in the Fils valley below, which offer sight lines from beneath the structure. The surrounding area is accessible on foot or by bicycle for exploring different viewpoints.
The bridge was constructed with special protective measures for reptiles during building operations, as the area is an important habitat for various species. These ecological provisions made the project an example of environmentally conscious infrastructure planning.
