Kleiner Auersberg

Kleiner Auersberg rises to 808 meters in the Bavarian section of the Rhön Mountains and sits within this larger mountain range. The summit and surrounding slopes are blanketed with dense deciduous forest that covers most of the terrain.

The mountain became part of the Wildflecken Training Area in 1938, transforming the region into a military zone. This change established access restrictions that have shaped its status ever since.

The summit becomes a gathering point during two annual Volkswandertage events when visitors join organized group hikes. On these days, you can feel the sense of community as local walkers make their way up together to this shared destination.

Access to this summit requires special permission because it sits within military grounds, and visits are limited throughout the year. Plan ahead if you want to visit, as opportunities are restricted and seasonal.

On clear days, visitors can spot Frankfurt's skyscrapers from the peak despite the distance, offering unexpected long-distance views across multiple regions. These far-reaching sightlines also allow you to see other mountain ranges like Kreuzberg, Dreistelzberg, Spessart, and Vogelsberg.
