Katzenlochbachtal, Nature reserve in Bonn, Germany
Katzenlochbachtal is a nature reserve covering about 185 hectares of protected land in Bonn, with a natural stream flowing through it. The landscape consists of meadows, forests, and wetlands that together form a diverse ecosystem.
The area received official protection status in 1999 and was later included in the European Natura 2000 network. These designations ensure the long-term preservation of natural habitats and species in the valley.
The valley is cared for by local nature enthusiasts who maintain the meadows and watch over the wildlife. People use this space for walks and value it as a green refuge within the urban area.
The valley can be entered from four different points connecting the villages of Röttgen, Ückesdorf, Lengsdorf, and Ippendorf. Two wooden bridges provide safe crossings at wet areas, making it easy for visitors to explore the reserve on established paths.
The Katzenlochbach is the only completely natural and unmodified stream in Bonn, flowing without any impact from wastewater or urban development. Its pristine condition makes it a rare example of original water patterns in an urban setting.
