Fort Black Jack, Military fort in Inneringen, Germany.
Fort Black Jack is a former military installation at the southern edge of Inneringen in the Sigmaringen district, occupying a large area. The site was later repurposed as an industrial zone and now contains commercial activities.
The facility served as a French air force base from 1959 to 1966 and was equipped with anti-aircraft missiles. Afterward, US forces took control of the missile storage, which operated through the 1980s.
The site became a focal point for peace demonstrations in the 1980s, drawing attention to nuclear disarmament discussions across Europe. These protests turned this location into a symbol of the region's peace movement.
The area is now part of an industrial zone and can be explored when visiting the region. It is best to view the site from accessible perimeter areas, as much of it is private property.
The site housed a secret stockpile of ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads under American control from the late 1960s through 1983. This presence made it a sensitive strategic point during the Cold War.
