Beketal, Protected area in Satow and Jürgenshagen, Germany
Beketal is a protected nature reserve near Satow and Jürgenshagen spanning roughly 96 hectares with steep slopes, gravel banks, and forest areas. A small stream called the Beke winds through the landscape, creating varied terrain.
The area belonged to the von Meerheimb family starting in 1662, with the family residing at Gnemern castle. Major changes came to the land following 1945 land reforms.
The forest reflects generations of woodland management visible in its varied tree stands. Visitors today mainly use the space for walking and observing wildlife.
A hiking path runs along the southern bank between Gnemern and Groß Gischow for exploring the area. The trail is straightforward to follow and offers views of the forest, stream, and slopes.
The reserve is home to rare fish species like brook lampreys and spined loaches in its waters. These creatures need clean, cold streams and make this place an important habitat.
