The Öjendorf Cemetery extends across 99 hectares of land, making it the second largest burial ground in Hamburg after the Ohlsdorf Cemetery.

The cemetery's planning started in the 1930s when Hamburg authorities recognized that Ohlsdorf Cemetery would reach capacity, leading to land acquisition of 317 hectares.

The Italian Memorial Cemetery within Öjendorf contains 5,857 graves of Italian victims from the National Socialist regime, transferred between 1956 and 1958.

Located at Manshardtstraße 200 in Hamburg's Billstedt district, the cemetery handles approximately 2,200 burials annually and features a central crematorium.

Since 1978, the cemetery includes dedicated Islamic burial sections oriented toward Mecca, complete with facilities for ritual washing ceremonies.
