Wallfahrtskirche Mariä Heimsuchung, Pilgrimage church in Marktschellenberg, Germany.
The Visitation Church is a pilgrimage building standing on a high plateau overlooking the Marktschellenberg valley. Inside, five altars and elaborate ceiling frescoes create a richly decorated sacred space, with a stone tower rising from the roof.
Construction began when the foundation stone was laid in 1724 under the rule of Prince Provost Julius Heinrich von Rehlingen-Radau. The building was significantly altered when a new tower was added around the middle of the 1800s.
The ceiling paintings by Innozenz Anton Warathy display various events from Mary's life, including tribulations and final hours.
The church is open year-round and welcomes visitors free of charge. Parking spaces are available near the building for those arriving by car.
Each year the Anna Festival brings an evening procession lit by candlelight, led by the Ettenberg shooting club in traditional dress. The celebration ends with a ceremonial volley fired as a final salute.
