Geisberg

Geisberg is a forested peak in the Siebengebirge range that rises to about 324 meters and is crisscrossed by hiking trails of varying difficulty. Thick deciduous woodlands cover the gentle slopes, creating a green landscape for visitors to explore.

The mountain was formed by volcanic activity between 15 and 28 million years ago, which shaped the entire Siebengebirge region and left distinctive rock formations. This ancient geological process created the foundation for the landscape visitors see today.

The name Geisberg refers to mountain goats that once roamed these slopes, reflecting how local communities named their landscape after wildlife they encountered. This connection between the place and animals remains a thread in how people speak about the area today.

The mountain is easily reached from Bad Honnef through well-marked trails, including the popular Rheinsteig hiking route that passes through the area. The walk to the summit takes roughly one to two hours depending on your chosen path and fitness level.

From the summit you can see neighboring peaks like Drachenfels and Wolkenburg, giving visitors a special geographical perspective of the range. On clear days the view extends across the Rhine Valley, offering rare sightlines over the entire region from a single vantage point.
