Geratalbrücke Ichtershausen, Railway bridge in Erfurt, Germany

The Geratalbrücke Ichtershausen is a railway bridge near Erfurt that spans across a valley on its way through the region. It uses a series of concrete supports to carry train tracks over the depression below.

Construction of this railway bridge began in the late 1990s and was completed in the early 2000s. It was built as part of efforts to improve the rail connection through this region.

The bridge carries the Ebensfeld–Erfurt high-speed line, opened in December 2017, sixteen years after the structure itself was finished in 2001. Its northern end at kilometre 179.0 marks the changeover to the 230 km/h limit toward Erfurt. Along part of the span toward Ichtershausen, a 2.0 m noise barrier runs beside the track.

The bridge carries active train traffic and can be observed by passengers traveling on the railway. The best views come from nearby roads that cross the valley or from accessible vantage points in the surrounding area.

The deck is a chain of 24 single-span girders, so individual segments can later be swapped out. The 44 m fields took two weeks each to cast on a launching gantry; the longer fields took two and a half weeks. The gantry's launching nose was demolished once the bridge was finished.
