Haus Knippenburg, Medieval water castle in Bottrop, Germany.
The castle consisted of two intersecting wings with a clock tower, featuring brick walls measuring 1.75 meters in thickness and sandstone frame elements.
First documented in 1385, the castle belonged to Count Bruno von Knippenburg and remained under the family's ownership through several generations until the 1800s.
The interior walls displayed numerous decorative paintings, while a 1923 poem from the Luyken family chronicles described the castle's surroundings and daily life.
The estate encompassed more than 200 hectares, including ponds, stables, gardens, forests, and meadowlands, before its demolition in 1962 following war damage.
The demolition of the castle walls required 25 kilograms of explosives and took 13 hours to complete due to their substantial construction.
