Haus Ripshorst, Nature information center in Oberhausen, Germany
Haus Ripshorst is an information center in Oberhausen located within a woodland garden that teaches visitors about the region's landscape and history. The building provides access to displays explaining the natural and cultural development of the surrounding area.
The center grew out of efforts to transform former industrial sites in this region that once depended on mining and heavy industry. This change reflects how the Ruhr area shifted from a production landscape to a place for recreation and nature.
The center explains how this region transformed from industrial sites into natural spaces that people can enjoy today. Exhibitions show the connection between the landscape and the people who lived and worked here.
The center is easily accessible via woodland paths and offers plenty of space for walking around the grounds. During wet weather, visitors should expect muddy or damp paths, especially during the wetter months.
Next to the building stands a 35 meter tall sculpture called Zauberlehrling shaped like a curved electricity pylon. Berlin artists created this artwork to turn an industrial symbol into a human figure.
